A Film A Month - summer 2023
The summer after graduating from Arts University Bournemouth, I began a small film challenge with myself in order to keep up my practice during the turbulent time. Each month of the summer, I shot and edited a short by myself, exploring whatever interested me during that period. The result is 4 documentaries, some observational, some more experimental.
The Pivaros - June
I spent a week with my grandparents with my Grandparents right after graduating university. I recorded hours of our conversations and filmed small snippets of their life together in Manchester.
I believe it is important to document the stories of our relatives and savour our time together while they are still with us.
The Bulb in Boscombe - July
A short observational documentary I made while volunteering at BEAF 2023 recording photographer Brendon Barry at work taking his Portraits of Boscombe. Inspired by Kieslowski’s early shorts that attempt to drop you into the world it’s depicting without much explanation. The black and white grade is a reference to Brendan’s photography that you can see if you swipe!
The Sleeve of the Smaller Sea - August
A visual poem reflecting on my family’s long history going to La Manga del Mar Menor, a small seaside town in the South of Spain that translates to The Sleeve of the Smaller Sea. The film is constructedentirely from archive, weaving between different times and people to create a portrait of the family throughout the years.
A New Cycle Begins - September
A documentary made at the Full Moon Party in Koh Phangan, Thailand with poetry by Rory Courtauld. A fun project we decided to make to document the event and also motivate us through the all-nighter that lay ahead. Thank you to our interviewees who were so fun and honest, we wished we could have gotten more but had to party at some point!
